Transforming Intergenerational Grief & Trauma

Mysticopoetics - Begins June 3, 2024

Mysticopoetics is a seven session online course for transforming Intergenerational Grief and Trauma through Movement, Contemplative Writing, and Herbal Medicine. This course has been specifically developed through my MFA Thesis Praxis.

Students will embody a process of Sifting through personal ontologies (ways of being) and epistemologies (ways of knowing) with the intention of lovingly breaking the unconscious cultural, familial, and spiritual agreements that fuel unhelpful behavior and relationship cycles. It will also connect us with the ancestral wisdom and resilience that lives within our cell, tissue, and bone memory.

The course flows through a metamorphosis process inspired by the anatomy of herbal medicine, epigenetics, and interpersonal neurobiology. We will explore the potential of transforming how our cellular intelligence expresses itself by targeting specific tissues of the body through movement, writing, and heritage based herbal medicine.

What makes my online courses unique, is that students are invited to deepen their understanding of the learning material entirely through embodied practice. This is a method of learning that restores autonomy and ignites agency in the student.

Mysticopoetics sessions will begin with a short talk and grounding practice, transition into movement, and close with contemplative writing. Course content will be posted to the online studio on Mondays starting June 3rd-July 17th. Each class is 90 minutes long and students can return to the materials for up to one year.

Fluid: In session one, we will connect with the personal concepts of place, memory, and intuition through practices that tonify the fluid body. Through creative and contemplative writing, students will be led through a process of identifying any big or small ancestral traumas that may be stored in the epigenome.

Blood: In session two, we will reflect on inherited stories, beliefs, and values through practices that tonify the blood. Students will reflect on any familial, cultural, or spiritual inhereted agreements that they wish to break through a series of creative and contemplative writing practices.

Muscle: In session three, we will observe our trauma responses of fight, fly, freeze, and appease through practices that tonify the muscle tissue. Collage and writing practices will be introduced that support us in clarifying our values, desires, and personal needs.

Fat: In session four, we will look kindly and deeply at nurturance, self-advocacy, and boundaries through practices that reimagine our relationship to our fat tissue. Students will be introduced to the mechanics of heritage based herbal medicine and write/collage a personal map to rebuild their connection to place through food and herbs.

Bone: In session five, we will connect with bone memory through practices that get us in touch with our dreams. Students will be guided through journey based meditation work that connects them to landscape, ancestors, and the realms and realities of the imagination.

Nerve: In session six, we will reclaim a sense of agency through practices that connect us to the electricity of our peripheral nerves. Students will set goals and intentions for their future from an embodied mindset of abundance and courage.

Vitality: In our final session, we will reclaim a sense of time and pleasure through practices that tonify the reproductive tissue. The focus of this session is intergenerational love and resilience.
