Somatic Intelligence for Trauma is a six week online course in Somatic Psychology and Dance Based Somatics that focuses on releasing stress and trauma from the body.
What makes my online courses unique, is that students are invited to deepen their understanding of the chosen subject matter entirely through movement practice. This is an embodied method of learning that restores autonomy and ignites agency in the student.
I guide all of my in depth studies in movement through a metamorphosis process in six waves or phases as outlined below. Each class is between 60-75 minutes long and students can return to the course material for up to six months.
Land - in our first session together we will embody Earth element by landing, settling, and emptying to begin. All healing begins with mindfulness; which I define as acceptance of self and circumstances. Once we have grounded ourselves, we will learn the basics of how stress and trauma express in our unique constitutions.
Listen: in the Listen session of Sift, we will embody with the element of Air through practices that connect us to the Vagus Nerve. Techniques practiced in this session will skillfully integrate breathwork and soundings to awaken the more sensitive layers of our psychosomatic experience.
Flow: in Flow, we will embody the element of Water by dancing with our attention. Cultivating an awareness of what we give our focus (and therefore our life) to. This is the art of attunement.
Bond: our Bond session is inspired by the element of Wood and the structural principle of Tensegrity. Through practices that foster insight into our capacity for Self-Regulation during conflict, we discover the importance of cultivating healthy boundaries with ourselves and others.
Morph: in Morph, we embody movement meditations that get us in touch with the Fire element. Exploring our limitations and capacities. Anger is a sacred emotion that animates us towards action in the world. Can we learn to stand in the heat of discomfort and make choices that align with our values?
Expand: in our final session together we will embody the element of Ether or space. Dancing joy, play, discovery, and curiosity. We are reminded that all life is movement and that we are of the nature to change. Belonging is all around us and trauma is an inherent aspect of being human.
